The Atlanta Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative (NRI) is a City of Atlanta strategy designed to address neighborhood disinvestment through coordinated public, private, and philanthropic investment.
Guided by the vision of making Atlanta the best place in the country to raise a child, the NRI takes a place-based approach, coordinating investments in housing, economic development, youth development, education, health, parks and recreation, transportation, and infrastructure to strengthen communities and expand opportunity.
The NRI identifies seven Founding Neighborhood Areas across Atlanta, including East Campbellton and West Campbellton.
West Campbellton is located in Southwest Atlanta, stretching from I-285 and Greenbriar Mall to the Campbellton Plaza (Delowe/Centra Villa). West Campbellton is using the MARTA BRT Implementation Plan, and there are complementary corridor investments being made in economic development and housing.
East Campbellton is located in Southwest Atlanta, stretching from Centra Villa in the west to and Fort McPherson/Oakland City to the east. East Campbellton is using the MARTA BRT Implementation Plan integrated with investments at Murphy’s Crossing and Fort McPherson.
The Campbellton Road Tax Allocation District (TAD) was established by the City of Atlanta to encourage redevelopment and attract new investment along Campbellton Road, a major commercial corridor connecting Downtown Atlanta to Southwest Atlanta.
The TAD provides an economic development tool to improve market competitiveness, support redevelopment opportunities, and leverage public investment to encourage private-sector participation.
The TAD is guided by five key development objectives:
Attract Investment: Improve the investment environment and attract a greater share of regional growth.
Preserve Neighborhood Character: Protect and enhance the character of surrounding residential communities.
Strengthen Commercial Areas: Improve the appeal and vitality of commercial districts.
Expand Economic Opportunity: Attract redevelopment and employment opportunities around key locations, including Fort McPherson, Greenbriar Mall, and the Atlanta BeltLine.
Leverage Partnerships: Stimulate redevelopment through effective public-private partnerships.
